The Survival Project is a collaborative effort to communicate vital public issues of importance to Americans.
2022:
The Survival Project rolled out the The Scarlet Letter (Pin) Project.
Originally conceptualized in 1995 by artist Terry Berkowitz, this project was conceived to break through the silence, guilt, and shame forced on many of us by an uncaring society, to allow individuals to openly deal with the events that touched them deeply, to understand that we are not alone, that there are millions just like us, and to identify ourselves and those who support us.
PHASE ONE
For the first phase of this project, the full amount of the donations will be sent to clinics providing abortions neighboring states where abortions have been criminalized. Donors will receive a Scarlet Letter pin symbolizing solidarity in the face of endless attacks on the rights of people who can become pregnant to their own bodies. The pin will show our strength and numbers. The aim is to maintain safe abortions as an option for all.
2020:
The Survival Project aired 30 second radio spots in important swing state areas leading up to the Presidential election.
PHASE ONE
We ran 30 second radio spots in Erie County, Pennsylvania; Kenosha County (including Milwaukee), and Brown County (Green Bay), Wisconsin the week of October 12th through October 18th.
PHASE TWO
We expanded our radio campaign into West Palm Beach and Port St. Lucie Counties, Florida, and Kent County, Michigan (including Grand Rapids) the week of October 19th through October 25th.
PHASE THREE
We engaged students and faculty in swing states to produce radio advertisements for their local communities of Jefferson County, Texas; Ottawa County and Wood County, Ohio (including Toledo) the week of October 25th through November 2nd.
PHASE FOUR
Leading up to the Georgia Senate runoffs, encouraged people to donate to a group of effective, grass roots organizers, working on the ground in George to get out, VOTE BLUE AND FLIP THE SENATE TOO!
WHO WE ARE
The founders of The Survival Project are Terry Berkowitz and Janet Biggs. The Survival Project was born out of two friends who decided to stop complaining and take action.
Our collaborators on the radio spot project include Ariel Wood and R. Eric McMaster.
